Pain in the elbows, wrists, and hands
Because we serve clients from a variety of backgrounds, including sports-related injuries, we frequently see elbow pain, wrist pain, and hand-related ailments at our Kensington osteopathy clinic. MMA/UFC, BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo, and Powerlifting are the most common combat sports I encounter at Mixed Osteo. Acute elbow, wrist, and hand injuries, as well as recurrent overuse injuries, are common. Acute injuries in combat sports can either be induced by trauma or develop during routine training.
Fractures, ligament injuries, and soft tissue strains are common in acute injuries, whereas tendons and associated muscles of the hand and forearm are common in chronic overuse injuries.
In the acute and chronic presentations, our osteopath will usually take a case history, assess you, refer you for imaging or to a doctor/hospital if necessary, and otherwise provide treatment that may include manual therapy, movement therapy, bracing, and management advice relating to pain management and avoidance of further aggravation.
Common elbow, wrist and hand injuries resulting in pain include:
Joint sprains
Muscle strains
Joint restrictions
Tennis Elbow ( Lateral Epicondylitis)
Golfers Elbow ( Medial Epicondylitis)
Carpal Tunnel
De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis
Rehabilitation for elbow, wrist and hand injuries
Post operative elbow, wrist and hand injuries
How can a Mixed Osteo/Osteopath help you?
Your Osteopath will do a thorough case history and assessment to assist with determining the aetiology of your injury, identifying aggravating and maintaining variables, and providing you with a diagnosis.
Your Osteopath will develop a treatment and care plan specific to your injury or condition.
This involves listening to your goals as a client and ensuring that the treatment and management plan are discussed with you and tailored to help you achieve them.
Manual therapy, movement therapy, exercise prescription, strength and conditioning, and ergonomics and manual handling recommendations may all be used to treat and manage this problem.
Your Osteopath may be compelled to refer you for additional assessment and investigation in specific situations.
Your osteopath may use hands-on treatment, movement-based treatment, or exercise prescription/rehabilitation to treat you.
Your Osteopath will design a treatment and management programme for you that educates and demonstrates how to better manage your condition through stretching, mobility, and strength training as needed.
