Knee pain
At Mixed Osteo, knee pain is one of the most prevalent lower limb symptoms that clients present with when they come to see an osteopath for treatment. At the clinic, we see a wide spectrum of acute and chronic knee pain complaints, with the acute knee pain complaint most frequently occuring after a traumatic injury or excessive loading during a sporting event or competition. Typically, the chronic knee complaint develops more slowly over time, and individuals are more likely to have ignored their bodies' warning signals that have been going off while engaging in the activity that is contributing to its development.
A detailed case history will be taken when you visit our Kensington clinic, and an assessment will be performed to determine whether a referral or imaging is required (in the case of suspected ligament damage or fracture, i.e. an internal knee structure issue such as an ACL, PCL, MCL, or LCL strain or injury to the medial meniscus/lateral meniscus). For the large number of patients who do not require imaging or referral, we will frequently offer treatment and develop a treatment plan.
Common conditions resulting in knee pain:
Ligament injuries/sprains and tears ( ACL, PCL, MCL OR LCL)
Meniscus injuries/strains and tears ( Medial meniscus or lateral meniscus)
Muscle strains and tears ( Hamstrings, Adductors and Quads)
Patellar Tendonitis / Tendinopathies
Patella tracking issues
Runners knee ( ITB syndrome)
Post operative knee conditions/ post reconstruction such as ACL, MCL, LCL and Meniscus surgery
In order to diagnose your injury, your Osteo will collect a complete case history and assessment.
Your Osteopath will provide a treatment plan based on your injury or condition.
This involves listening to your goals as a client and discussing the treatment and management plan with you to help you achieve them.
Interventions include manual, mobility, and strength and conditioning exercises as well as advise on workplace ergonomics and manual handling.
In some circumstances, your Osteopath may need to refer for further testing.
These include hands-on treatment, movement-based treatment, and exercise prescription/rehabilitation.
Your Osteopath will offer you with a treatment and management plan that includes stretching, mobility, and strength training.
